Denver Broncos vs Las Vegas Raiders Drive Stats and Recap

Nothing good came this week.  Its become abundantly clear that the match of Pat Shurmur and Drew Lock is not going to work.  The front office will need to decide which one is more important to keep.  To me, Shurmur was available for a reason as the Giants jettisoned him to try to find a better fit for their young QB.  Teh limited use of Phillip Lindsay, along with consistent struggles to get scheme easy throws to help Lock makes it abundant Shurmur's offense is not the way to go.  This is not to remove all the fault from Drew Lock though, as he continues to make decisions in game that are just maddening.  The first and third interceptions were inexcusable, and essentially put the game out of reach as the defense was forced to be on the field for far too long with a depleted front. The offense only gained 30% of their potential yards, which is just not going to win a game in the modern NFL.  It also should go without saying the Special Teams continue to be awful, and Denver likely should fire the coordinator this week.  The disastrous initial kick return and a luckily called back PR for TD against them continue to show the units ineptitude.

The defense was able to hold up somewhat well given the lack of depth up front, but a distinctive lack of pressure on Derek Carr meant the Raiders able to consistently pick up yards.  They gained 56% of their potential yards, and they forced just one punt after their first drive of the 2nd quarter.

Denver Bronocs vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Recap

The Broncos continued their struggles this past weekend, as Jeff Driskel showed he was not the answer until Drew Lock returns.  The offense had 8 of their 11 drives gain less than half of their potential yards, which is pretty terrible.  Not one player really stood out for good play, as Noah Fant dropped a couple of must have passes and nothing got going. There also is some disappointment with the relatively little use of KJ Hamler, despite his playing nearly every snap (5 targets, 1 rush).

On defense, 6 of the 11 drives for the Bucs gained fewer than half of their potential yards which is not bad.  However the defense continued to be eaten up by crossing routes with Tom Brady consistently able to find TEs and Chris Godwin open against Jewell and Johnson.  Justin Simmons also had a fall back this week, with some tough assignments and a really bad looking at attempt at man coverage with Mike Evans in the endzone.  The big brightspot this week had to be Shelby Harris, who continues to be a disruptive player on an ailing front.
