A friend of mine and I were just discussing whether or not a hydrogen economy or a more electric based one would be better (specifally the new Tesla model and its viability. If hydrogen from desalination is very efficient it could really help more drought plagued California.

A flexible solar battery
This article describes this as the next step for wearables, which solar would be a pretty great idea for. However, these seem pretty fragile for the wearable market as it is currently oriented for folks doing athletic feats
Fastest data transfer ever,
This is pretty exciting news. Being able to send data wirelessly at these speeds could possibly mean big things for emergency areas or data transfer in space
A shocking way to save money,
I'm not sold that this nudge will work particularly well. If you were consistently over spending, you would just remove the wearable. I prefer something that wagers your cash against you spending it, since that has a quick direct impact.
Smelly socks and washers
Not exactly certain the real purpose of this study. Basically it just says that yes, washing your clothes willmake them smell less. I guess not all research can be great right?

So many places to visit
The Kepler probe found a whole bunch of new planets, with at least a few in a nice habitable zone around their stars.
More NASA items enter the public domain,
I do always love seeing the things NASA ends up adding to the public domain. A lot of it is of course things that commercial companies already have, but some of the thruster technology might be interesting to see if serious amateurs could put together.
One can only hope this comes to pass,
I loved BattleBots as a kid (and a British version that I remember watching on PBS late at night with my Dad. I cant remember its name though). This of course is just the next evolution of it.
With friends like these....

Books for all: Google ended up winning their court fight to be able to scan books for Google Books when the Supreme Court passed on hearing an appeal by the Authors Guild. Its a win overall for book lovers, as long as Google keeps it to snippets instead of full scans.
Time to break out the tinfoil helmets: Brain waves as unique as finger prints..
But can we make a coat out of it: A fully flexible Solar Panel that still mainatins a high effieciency could be a real break through for a ton of applications.

Los Links: April 16th
2025, the date by which we'll find aliens : I've always believed that we'd find Alien life. But for the most part its pretty terrifying, because its all too likely those Aliens would be far superior to us technologically, and we;ve seen for the most part how thats worked here on earth.
Ultra fast aluminum batteries : This is one of the most exciting things I've seen in terms of battery technology. Super fast recharge times, nearly indestructible, and with orders of magnitude greater charging cycles.
GPS without satellites Those boys at DARPA. What will they think of next?

The 21st Century is today: Boeing Patents Plasma Shields. These shields likely wont come to fruition, in this first iteration anyways. But its an exciting idea.
A Wooly Mammoth getting cloned? I typically tend to side with the old man from Pet Semetary when this sort of question comes up: Sometimes Dead is Better.
24th century tech: The Tricorder makes its first appearance at SXSW. Another big prize is producing results faster than we could hoped for.
